It was during the second anglo-maratha war that Nagpurkar Bhonsles lost the battle with East India Company and the British resident was appointed, taking over the empire of Nagpurkar Bhonsale. They built the Railway station, University, Institute of Science & various institutions, Vidhan Bhawan, churches, museum, the Victoria technical institute, secretariate building, GPO, Old High court and various other significant structures in Nagpur.
