OVERVIEW
The ‘Kingdom of Nagpur’ was founded by the Gond rulers and later came under the rule of the Nagpurkar Bhonsles. It was at its peak during the eighteenth century under the Bhonsle rule. It was during the second anglo-maratha war that Nagpurkar Bhonsles lost the battle with East India Company and the British resident was appointed, taking over the empire of Nagpurkar Bhonsale. They built the Railway station, University, Institute of Science & various institutions, Vidhan Bhawan, churches, museum, the Victoria technical institute, secretariate building, GPO, Old High court and various other significant structures in Nagpur. This walk covers the heritage structures from the British Era located in the Civil Lines area of Nagpur. It unfolds the stories of the battle between the mighty Maratha rulers 'Nagpurkar Bhosales' and the East India Company, and further about their reign in Nagpur until Independence.
