OVERVIEW

Just a short distance from Nagpur, the stone circles at Hingna-Raipur represent one of the region’s most significant yet lesser-known archaeological landscapes. These megalithic structures dating back to between 1000 BCE and 300 CE were built by early agro-pastoral communities of Vidarbha. Thoughtfully arranged basalt stones mark burial sites that reflect the technological, social and ritual practices of the time. From iron tools and ceramics to possible astronomical alignments, these sites provide valuable information into early life in Ancient India. This heritage walk offers an opportunity to engage with a deep and tangible past one that connects us to the first communities who shaped this land. Through guided exploration, we aim to better understand the people who once lived here and the legacies they left behind in stone.
